The FAQ

Turn up at 7.25 on almost any Monday evening at Holy Trinity Church on the High Street in Guildford to try us out and see if we are the right chorus for you. See our Members page for our rehearsal schedule.

Other things you might like to know:

Where do we rehearse?

Holy Trinity Church, GU1 3RR (top of Guildford High Street). Occasionally, we may rehearse elsewhere, but you're always given plenty of notice.

When do we rehearse?

Rehearsals are generally on Mondays from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, along with the Friday before a concert. See the Members page for our current rehearsal schedule.

Do I have to audition?

Yes, there is a short audition with the Music Director. We are looking for people with good general musicianship and you will be asked to sing a short, prepared piece, do a brief sight-reading exercise and simple aural test.

When do I audition?

Try us first. Come along to a few rehearsals to see how we work. If you decide to join, auditions take place on Saturday mornings or just before rehearsals.

How much is the subscription?

The subscription is £104 pa (that is about £2.20 an evening). Payment can be made in four instalments. You pay a reduced rate in your first year if you join mid-season but subs are then for the full year and there is no reduction if you drop out of concerts during subsequent years. Students can join for a nominal £10 pa.

Where do the concerts take place?

Most are in Guildford Cathedral, with some taking place at St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London and Holy Trinity Church in Guildford. We will also be singing in the South East's newest venue, G Live. We have sung at Leeds and Hever Castles, the Royal Albert Hall, in France and in Germany.

What do I wear for concerts?

Ladies: Long black skirt or trousers, a black long-sleeved top and Vivace scarf, which is available from the choir.

Men: Dinner suit with black bow tie.

Do I have to buy the music?

Usually you have the choice to hire or buy music. Our librarian lets you know about music requirements well in advance so that you can decide which option is best for you.
